AMPS AMPS AMPS
So you just bought that Custom shop/ Masterbuilt of your dreams, now what? Well the first thing is grab a cable and fire up the amp…hmmm…the amp. Truth is your amp choice is just as important as your guitar choice. And there are a metric s**t ton of them out there. First consideration, what are you going for? A British beast? A headroom pedal platform? Or a high gain demon from hell? Whatever your tastes its always a good idea to go for the same quality as your guitar. Also take into account where and how you’ll be playing. For home use, a nice 1-15 watt tube amp will be plenty to aggravate the neighbors. For live use, a 25-50 watt tube amp should be enough to get the soundman snarling at you. If solid state is your bag go higher wattage to retain the tonal quality without any nasty power clipping. Most players agree great tone is in your hands but why not push it over the top with the perfect tools. You’ll want to play more and you’ll play better! Always remember, wear hearing protection if you’re gonna ramp it up.
